Internal 3-core and earth electrical cable colors include a live brown wire, a neutral grey wire, a green/yellow protecting earth wire, and an extra black conductor known as the live line 2 wire. These are the only two wires in internal wiring systems. The other two wires (hot and lamp) are used for lighting purposes.

In other words, the live wire is the same color as your house's electric panel box, and the neutral wire is the same color as your house's neutral bus bar. Electrical wiring is not just about connecting things together, it's also about protecting these connections against damage. If any wires are exposed, unprotected wires will be able to touch them. This can lead to an electrical fire.

Wires should always be placed into protective covering. This includes cables used for lighting, heating systems, and air conditioners. Any other type of wiring should be placed into protective tape or conduit.

If any old wiring is present in an area where they're being constructed, replace it with new wiring.
