Is it still bow season in Missouri?

The archery deer and turkey shooting seasons for 2020–2021 are Sept. 15–Nov. 13 and Nov. 25–Jan. 1. These are open seasons, which means you can shoot whatever species are available during the season. The legal age to purchase a bow is 18 years old.

Turkey hunters cannot buy guns at retail stores. To purchase a shotgun, you must go through a licensed dealer. To purchase a rifle, you must go through a licensed dealer or a gun store. The age limit for both shotguns and rifles is 18 years old.

Missouri has some of the most restrictive gun laws in the country. No one under the age of 18 is allowed to carry a firearm, even with their parent's permission. It is also illegal for anyone to sell a handgun in Missouri unless they have a license to do so. Handguns must be kept locked up in a secure container; those who fail to do so can be fined.

It is against state law to discharge a firearm within 500 feet of any occupied building or vehicle. Failure to do so could result in a yearlong prison sentence.

Firearms are required to be registered with the county sheriff's office. When you register your weapon, tell the clerk its type, make, and model.

During the archery deer season, crossbows will now be permitted. The late portion of the youth guns season has been shortened from January to three days commencing the first Friday following Thanksgiving. A doe may only be harvested with a bow or crossbow. No more than two arrows or bolts may be used per deer.

The youth rifle season will continue to be conducted during the open season. However, it can no longer be done as previously prescribed - five specific dates during a six-day period each year. Instead, any day that the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources allows shooting is considered an eligible day for participation. Registration is required for all participants under 18 years old. Applicants between the ages of 18 and 21 must present a government-issued photo ID to register. The cost is $10 for individuals and $20 for families. Registration packets may be obtained by contacting your local conservation district or visiting www.mowb.mo.gov.
